cakes created from paintings in the LA's Museum of contemporary art's permanent collection were also for sale at last night's bake sale by the friends of MOCA.

just like when i had a girl scouts troop......whenever we needed funds for a camp out or sock hop, we always had a bake sale and it always worked.  of course i did notice that the people buying most of the goods were the girl in the troop themselves.  we were known as the round troop. 

but, i think MOCA needs something like 30 million dollars to be bailed out of their current financial problem for this year.   that's a lot of cakes and cookies.  more than my troop could handle.

but yummy!

did you say $1 million?   then you would be correct!

yes, these cookies are for a fund raiser by lovers of MOCA, the LA Museum of Contemporary Art.  why?

 because when an important museum like the los angeles museum of contemporary art is about to abort into financial oblivion, there is one thing left to do, that's right............ have a bake sale.

what?  you didn't know that the LA MOCA is in dire financial straits?  me neither.  but it is. 

the museum has lost money for 6 of the last 8 years and has used up its endowments - so i read in Arts Journal.

times are bad, but they are really bad if we lose our public access to  contemporary art.

my opinion.

its sad.

 when a financial crunch hits, many people turn from material gadgetry to things they can make and art appreciation.   but what happens if the arts disappear too.

i don't know and i don't wanna find out.

SO, maybe you would be interested in buying a million dollar cookie - they are made from an old french recipe and taste like almond.  they need to sell 15 to stay afloat..........offers?

This is called "Bird Watching" it is a photo that i want to dedicate to you readers as a happy holidays card.  This photographic art was done by seattle school girl, Chrissy White.  i discovered her work online and love it for its dark humor and mood. she says she feels trapped all day in high school, especially math class and would rather do art. i remember those days, barely.

she escapes through her narrative photography, then does some photoshopping.

why am i posting a picture of my dog?  because he is darn good looking.

i posted a story about him over the last weekend on my personal blogspot.  www.lisabebi.blogspot.com.

he got into a bit of skunk trouble.  reminds me of a couple of my friends - a bit of skunk trouble each.

anyway,  i read of a recipe over the internet that worked wonderfully and immediately.  it was mostly hydrogen peroxide, baking soda, and liquid soap.  this recipe worked immediately on my dog, the old recipe of tomato juice - i have my doubts as to whether this would work with my friends though.

my friends probably need to have a bath in this recipe but in addition i would add an ego reducer too.

i think that being on TV can create a change in personality in some people.

sitting up

ever come up with a cool idea and turn around and find out someone else is copying you?  this happens to me ALL the TIME!!!

I have people tell me all the time that they have seen my art somewhere, and i say, where?  it turns out to be someone imitating my style.  i suppose i should accept that as i have conducted many workshops to teach my style!  i mean i'm kinda asking for it.

but now i found out that someone who has been on our show has started one (on public access TV) and is even giving it my tag line: "for artists by artists".  ok, ok, i guess there is a difference, my tag line is "by artists for artists".  why can't people invent their own thing?

well good luck new show.....honestly.

those who imitate my subject matter and painting style - huh! i don't know what to say, makes me sit up.  i guess sit up proud as it is a compliment.

Opportunities to come on our show

I am looking for emerging artists to come on the show for our "Gallery Walk" section.  "Gallery Walk" is our not-for-profit" portion of the show.  Artists are encouraged to submit jpegs to me or give me a website address  at lisabebiart@aol.com.  the cost for emerging artists is $150 for 15 seconds, up to 6 paintings or pieces shown.  This cost is for production only, not airtime.

There is a similar opportunity for an emerging gallery (emerging gallery is a gallery in business for less than 2 years).  We allow up to 4 emerging galleries per show.  The gallery gets to highlight up to four artists for a flat $400 fee.  The length of airtime varies - on how much there is to say. or who is interviewed.

works in craft punched "skins"

as the editor of , N Art Magazine, TV show, i have had the honor of meeting many new, accomplished artists.  take for instance artist, David Adey.

Adey had the idea that while photos take a 3-d objects and render them as flat objects, why not take the flat image (photo) and make it in the round.  

adey, taking this idea further, takes glossy fashion ads, (skin of the model only; not clothes or words) and extrudes a sculptural like 3 -d relief by reassembling the cut -by -craft -punch "skins" with specimen style pins.   By craft punches, i mean the kind you would by from craft stores like Michaels.  

Take a closer look and see for yourself (click on the image),  just how many different craft punches he used for this "skin" of Katie Holmes.  

or you can google his name, David Adey.  He is worth a look.

Episode three, blasts off

I  I hope you enjoyed the show today.

I just want to thank especially Simon Loli, our guest host, who bravely followed us the day we filmed his segment - i asked him out of the blue to come and be our special guest, co-host. he said, sure and off we went filming the rest of the show - no script, no  idea of what we were to ask him to do.  i thought he did well. he was very fresh and good natured and really did seem to want to know what the other artists on our show had to say.

as for our beautiful host, Brooke Binkowski, well some of you already know, she is my oldest daughter, Even so,  she has had over 10 years experience in front of the microphone as she worked full time as a radio news reporter for CNN, KPR-SC, KNX to name a few.  she was also the anchor for CNN international for 2 years in atlanta.

I enjoyed meeting kevin freitas,writer and critic of Art As Authority blog. he is a real san diego art assest - helping the arts community what is going on.

david ady - loved his interesting push pin "BEBE" skins from magazines.  really, if you get a chance to see his work up close, it is well worth it.  he is showing now at the Jesus de Luis Gallery in little italy.

our workshop guest artist was jake alee, ceramist.  we caught up with him at south western college.  

artist Boban, was the wonderful sculptor who worked in spoons and sterlingware.  he actually sold a piece while we were there filming for a mere $250,000.  the piece was bought to be display in front of a corporation building.

as mentioned  before.......the N Art Magazine TV show is on THIS sunday at 4 p.m. on channel 10 (ABCTV) 

it is about the thanksgiving table.
